Principal Design Features This is a high strength alloy of very good toughness. It is a derivative of AL 7075 alloy and the AL 7475 version is available in sheet and plate product forms.

Applications Commonly used in the manufacture of shell casings, aircraft, and other structures.

Machinability Machining characteristics are very good in the annealed condition. Use of oil base lubricants for all machining operations is recommended.

Forming This alloy may be formed by conventional methods. However forming is easier in the annealed condition because in the heat treated (hardened) condition the alloy has more springback due to its strength. Use of warming at 250 F will assist in forming, especially for spinning. Optimum formability is with the material in the W (quenched) condition.

Welding Not normally done to this alloy and no data on techniques available at this time.

Heat Treatment Heat treatment may be done. However the parameters of the treatment are proprietary to Alcoa. Heat treat information is available from Alcoa on a non-disclosure agreement basis.

Forging No data available.

Hot Working No hot work data available. However use of warming at 250 F for annealed stock is conducive to forming operations such as spinning.

Cold Working The alloy in the annealed condition is readily cold worked using conventional means. In the heat treated tempers it is more difficult to form because of it greater strength. See also "Forming".

Annealing Proprietary data. Consult Alcoa.

Aging Proprietary data. Consult Alcoa.

Tempering Not applicable to this alloy.

Hardening Proprietary data. Consult Alcoa.
