Principal Design Features This is an alloy designed for high strength, fracture toughness and hardness.

Applications AM 100 has been successfully employed in jet engine shafts, a variety of ordnance and ballistic components, as well as in fasteners.

Machinability Machining this alloy is considered somewhat more difficult than machining 4340 at Rc 38. Carbide tooling is recommended at 280 to 350 SFM.

Heat Treatment Normalize by heating to 1650 F and hold for 1 hour, then air cool. For optimum softening for machining, normalize at 1650 F and overage anneal at 1250 F for 16 hours.

Annealing For optimum softening for machining, normalize at 1650 F and overage anneal at 1250 F for 16 hours. This should result in a Rc 40 maximum hardness.
