Principal Design Features

A nickel-chromium alloy primarily used as an electric resistance heating element in wire and strip forms. It performs well at generating heat up to approximately 1850 F.

Heating elements for household appliances.

Machinability
|
|
Can be readily machined by conventional means.
|
|
Forming
|
|
Ductility is good and the alloy may be readily formed by standard methods.
|
|
Welding
|
|
May be welded by all conventional methods.
|

Heat Treatment
|
|
Anneal at 1950 F to 2000 F and air cool.
|
|
Forging
|
|
The alloy can be readily forged at temperatures in the 2000 F range.
|
|
Hot Working
|
|
Hot working may be don in the 1900 F to 1400 F range.
|
|
Cold Working
|
|
The alloy has good ductility and may be readily cold worked. It will harden due to cold working.
|
|
Annealing
|
|
Anneal at 1950 F - 2000 F and air cool.
|
|
Hardening
|
|
Hardens by cold working only.
|
|
Other Physical Props
|
|
The alloy increases in electrical resistance with temperature. Typical is a 9% increase at 1200 F over room temperature resistance.
