Principal Design Features This is a ferritic stainless steel designed specifically to resist pitting and crevice corrosion in condenser tube carrying brackish and salt water. Additionally, it possesses twice the yield strength and a superior fatigue strength compared to 304 stainless.

Applications Commonly used in and designed for condenser tubes, it has potential for successful applications in a variety of other industrial components.

Machinability This material shares similar characteristics to other ferritic stainless steels. It has a relatively low work hardening rate and may be machined using all common methods.

Forming Due to its low work hardening rate, this material can be readily formed using a wide variety of methods. Intermediate annealing is required much less frequently than with austenitic stainless steels.

Welding In an effort to minimize contamination, it is recommended that shielded methods be employed.

Annealing Soak at 1600-1800 F, rapid cool.

Hardening This alloy will not respond to thermal treatment for hardening.
