Principal Design Features
A modification of Invar alloy, Super-Invar contains cobalt as a replacement for some of the nickel in this iron-nickel alloy. This modified composition results in a coefficient of thermal expansion that is near zero at moderate temperatures.

Applications
Precision measuring devices requiring the maintenance of extreme accuracy and dimensional characteristics with changes in temperature.
Machinability
The alloy is machinable by conventional means - basically the same as for Invar alloy. The alloy will produce long stringy chips that must be broken. It is known as "gummy", not hard. Positive feeds and slow speeds are recommended.
Forming
This alloy is ductile and may be formed by all conventional means.
Welding
The alloy is weldable by conventional methods.
Cold Working
Cold working by conventional means works well as the alloy has good ductility.

Annealing
Anneal at 1550 F and water quench.
