Hydro Extrusions - Formerly Sapa, is the largest common alloy extrusion facility in North America. Situated on 100 acres of land, the combined area of the 13 buildings on the plant side provides approximately 34.5 acres (1.5 million square feet) under roof!
The Cressona facility was designed and constructed during World War II for the U.S. Government and leased to the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) for the manufacture of aluminum alloy, extruded shapes and tubing. Operated for the U.S. Government from April 1943 to October 1944, the plant was later utilized by the Defense Department for the reclamation of returned ordnance material. Alcoa purchased the plant and operated it between October 1946 and May 1977. The plant was closed between May 1977 and May 1979.
